This paper analyzes Iran’s regional policy since the Iranian Revolution of February 1979. It presents a brief historical background of Iran’s strategy under the Shah and then looks at Iranian foreign policy as determined by the ideological map drawn by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It also examines Iranian policies toward Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
