This publication examines NATO enlargement from a Russian perspective in terms of Moscow's political and military responses as well as the opinions of intellectuals. The author argues that overall Russia's attitude toward NATO growth is calmly negative because within policy circles there remain doubts about NATO's threatening posture. He concludes that Russia faces strategic geopolitical challenges for which NATO should make allowances.
