This publication examines the political, diplomatic and economic relationship between Russia and Turkey since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The author argues that Russia sees Turkish interaction with states like Georgia and Moldova as an encroachment into its sphere of influence, particularly with reference to the construction and tourism industry. The paper concludes that despite Ankara's growing ties with Washington, its increasing reliance on Russian gas supplies mean that the relationship between Turkey and Russia will remain cooperative.
