This publication discusses Russia's role as one of the states leading attempts to provide a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The author argues that the history of close ties between Moscow, the PLO and certain Arab states in the Soviet period gives her theoretical opportunities to promote her own vision of a Middle East peace settlement. The publication concludes with a chronology of events concerning the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the Russian Orthodox Church and the foreign ministries of both governments.
