This paper examines potential outcomes of Iraq's greater feel of ownership of their government and nationalist sentiment. In particular, the author examines the dynamics of three key political issues: the nature and negotiations behind the passage of a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA); the rise of particular political forces that have introduced a new political landscape in Iraq following the 2009 elections; and the escalation of the Arab-Kurdish tensions with their potential for more violent conflict at a time when the US is drawing back its military presence.
