This working paper discusses the Six Party Talks and the possibilities for nuclear disablement in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Various options available to disable or render the key nuclear facilities unusable are presented, along with a clarification of the term 'disablement'. The authors also highlight the importance of (minimal) maintenance of nuclear facilities for health and safety reasons, and argue that the more destructive disablement measures should not damage components critical to verification goals. Whether the DPRK will acquiesce to such demands remains to be seen.
