This working paper presents the results of a survey of over 900 Pakistani urban adults, undertaken in December 2008. The authors argue that one of the sources of resilience of the Pakistani state over time has been the public; the opinions and attitudes of this group are therefore important. Key issues addressed in the survey include how Pakistanis view the role of Islam in society, how important democracy is seen to be, the issue of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and relations with the US and Afghanistan.
