This paper examines the issue of missile defense in Europe, with a particular emphasis on the policy implications of the US anti-missile system in Central Europe. The author outlines both general themes in missile defense and the specific problems arising from proposed US plans. He assesses the impact this conflict has had on the policy-making environments in the Czech Republic and Poland, as well as its impact on US-Russia relations. The author argues that although there is a pause in the missile dispute with the arrival of the Obama administration, no permanent solution is in sight.
