This paper reviews the comportment of South Africa's elite police squad, the Directorate of Special Operations (DSO), otherwise known as the 'Scorpions.' In the mid-2000s, the Scorpions' investigation of high-profile politicians, the use of aggressive media strategies and other perceived abuses of power, provoked negative reactions from a wide range of political actors and led to the establishment of the Khampepe Commission. This paper details the drama that unfolded during the Commission's proceedings.
