This paper discusses the trial of Charles Taylor, Liberia's former head of state, in the Special Court for Sierra Leone. It highlights the main legal issues surrounding his indictment in relation to the decade-long armed conflict in Sierra Leone, his arrest and the dilemma clouding his prosecution. The author examines the trial with the vision of contributing to the development of international law, conflict prevention in Africa and the creation of an impunity-free continent.
