This paper discusses the disarmament of civilians and members of the Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) following the signing of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement. It debates various motives for the disarmament of Jonglei state and reviews dynamics of the two-decade long north-south civil war in Sudan.
