This paper explores the impact of privatization on the copper mining industry and the economy of Zambia. It discusses the effects of copper mining on local communities and details contestations over control and access to mineral wealth. It debates Zambia's exposure to a 'resource curse' and critically assesses the performance of the copper mining industry after privatization in the early 1990s.
