This paper details the incidence of crime in South Africa. An October-November 2007 National Crime and Victimization Survey (NCVS) conducted by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) informs the paper. It provides an overview of the central findings of the 2007 survey, key victimization and reporting trends since 1998, as well as changes in the public’s perception of crime, responses to crime and the performance of the criminal justice system.
