This paper describes the effectiveness of border control at Johannesburg International Airport (JIA) and Durban Harbor with regards to drug smuggling. It discusses the drugs most transported into South Africa, their methods of entry and surveys anti-narcotic initiatives. It argues that investigations must focus on disrupting the supply chain behind the border line. Otherwise, border patrol is looking for a needle in a haystack.
