This paper assess the conflict in Burundi with a focus on disarmament initiatives. It traces the conflict's roots since 1993 and discusses the transition to peace. It concludes that the need for Burundi to embark on its disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) program before elections in 2005 is of paramount importance.
