This paper examines characteristics and different factors that influence victimization in South Africa. The paper offers a summary of the modelling outcomes for each of the crime-types identified, before drawing out the key issues and trends emerging from the study. The author argues that an analysis of victimization trends can assist in identifying and prioritising strategies to address crime, as well as allocating resources and responsibilities for this purpose. More cooperation between civilians and the police, among other things, is needed to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime, the author argues.
