This paper highlights that members of US Congress and individuals within the Trump administration have called for regime change in Iran. However, the text’s authors contend that Washington would be wise not to adopt an approach towards Tehran that involves efforts to topple the Iranian government, as this would be a difficult and dangerous policy to pursue. They also predict that the Trump administration will adopt a ‘wait-and-see’ approach towards Iran, which see Washington lend support to opposition forces in the country if the opportunity arises, rather than undertake a direct military intervention against Tehran.
