The four articles in this edition of the CTC Sentinel focus on 1) the network that carried out the 2019 Easter terrorist attacks in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and how the attacks fit into the context of intercommunal tensions in the country; 2) options for dealing with Islamic State (IS) foreign fighters currently detained in Syria; 3) developments in the doctrinal drivers behind terrorist attacks against Jewish targets in the US and Europe since 2012, and 4) IS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s first appearance on camera in almost five years in April 2019 and how it underlined the strategic transformation of IS back towards insurgency. The volume also includes an interview with Vidhya Ramalinga, co-founder of Moonshot CVE, a company using technology to disrupt and counter violent extremism.
