The conduct of multinational corporations involved in large-scale mining obviously has a significant impact on local communities. It’s good to know then that an international framework for such conduct is provided by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. But how are these guidelines actually received in a typical host state of global mining businesses? This paper responds by looking at the case of Colombia and finds that many non-government organizations engaged in corporate community relations reject the guidelines as they are perceived to be inadequate for the fight against corporate impunity.
