This paper looks at Spain’s new Popular Party (PP) government, which faces two large problems – its minority government status and a deeply fragmented Spanish parliament. Despite these impediments, however, the text’s author argues that the PP must slog on and 1) approve a 2017 budget; 2) formulate a course of action over Catalonia; 3) combat political corruption and high unemployment rates; 4) reform the country’s education and pension systems; and 5) actively participate in the post-Brexit debate. Needless to say, fostering consensus among Spain’s divided politicians will be a must here.
