This text discusses both the opportunities and risks the new American administration poses to the Gulf States. While the latter are hoping the US will adopt a tougher stance against Iran and focus less on the human rights abuses within their own countries, they also fear that President Trump will 1) push for national governments to shoulder more of their own defense burdens, and 2) support more Russian involvement in the Middle East. Given the political box the Gulf States now find themselves in, the paper’s authors conclude that they might opt to cooperate more with Israel against Iran.
