Three of Latin America’s largest democracies – Brazil, Mexico and Colombia – elected new heads of state, congress members, and local officials in a series of polarized, contentious elections in 2018. This publication outlines lessons learnt from these elections and provides an overview of polarization, automation, and disinformation, especially in the digital realm, in these countries. The report also lays out a multi-stakeholder vision for fostering digital resilience as the world prepares for major elections in 2019 and 2020 in Argentina, the European Union, India, Indonesia, the US and beyond.
