Given that the Central African Republic (CAR) has been in the grips of a serious armed conflict since 2012, no one thought it would be able to hold peaceful presidential and parliamentary elections in 2015-2016. The authors of this report 1) examine the groups that were instrumental in making these elections possible, and 2) remind us that the international community needs to continue monitoring violence in the region and maintain its peacebuilding efforts.
