This short paper contends that if China assumes a more prominent role in the Middle East’s transportation projects, it could become a de facto facilitator of stability in the region. Consider, for example, the proposed Israel-Gulf Economic Corridor (IGEC), which would connect Jordan to the Mediterranean by running a railway line from the Israeli-Jordanian border to the Port of Haifa.
