This paper examines the shifts that are affecting global natural gas markets, including the boom in US shale gas production and the growing trade in liquefied natural gas, and what the adjustments mean for the US’ internal and external gas policies. The text’s author specifically argues that as an emerging energy superpower, the US should cement its position as a leading player in global gas markets and promote the open, secure, and de-politicized availability of this energy source. She also contends that the Trump administration should use America’s newfound energy prowess to support its allies in Europe, contain its adversaries, and reshape its relations with rising Asian powers.
