This analysis examines how Pakistan’s military, and particularly its Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) agency, views the US as well as terrorist groups in Afghanistan. Key issues addressed by the text’s author include 1) how Pakistan’s military has grown increasingly anxious about its relationship with the US and Washington’s role in Afghanistan; 2) why it is unlikely that the US will be able to threaten or induce Pakistan to give up its ties to certain terrorist groups operating in its neighborhood; and 3) why Pakistan will probably continue to move further away from the US position on Afghanistan.
