This paper examines 1) Thailand’s conviction of dozens of people in the country’s largest human trafficking trial in July 2017; and 2) whether the prosecution of such perpetrators is an effective way to eradicate human trafficking. As the convictions mostly related to crimes committed against asylum seekers from Myanmar’s Rohingya population, the author also looks what led this minority group to be vulnerable to traffickers as well as what this means for counter trafficking efforts in the region.
