This paper argues that since 2014, new supplies and decisions by OPEC have pushed global oil prices down. In combination with other factors, this development has reset the link between energy and geopolitics. Indeed, it is now producers rather than consumers of energy that are bearing the primary risks of energy geopolitics. While the US is benefiting from this shift, this text suggests it is also creating new problems for Washington. To highlight what these might be, the paper´s authors examine how lower oil prices could have a particular impact in three geographic areas: Russia, South and East Asia and the Middle East.
