The British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES) both encourages and promotes the study of the Middle East and North Africa in the United Kingdom. More specifically, it 1)sustains original research on this region across a wide range of disciplines, 2) brings together teachers, researchers, students, diplomats, journalists and others who deal professionally with the Middle East, and 3) works to secure continuous and reliable government funding consistent with the previous two aims.
