In this blog post of die Volkswirtschaft, CSS' Julian Kamasa - in collaboration with Linda Maduz, Philippe Lionnet, and Marcel Brengard - looks at the tension between international trade and geopolitics. In a rather short contribution, the article examines how states intervene in world trade organizations in a heightened manner on security policy grounds. Such interventions, such as the classification of goods as "strategically relevant", lead to unevenly distributed risks, which is challenging for small, open economies like Switzerland.
