Ismayilli: The Winter of Our Alarm

This article analyses the events taking place in January in Azerbaijan and their implications for the presidential elections later this year. The spontaneous violence in Ismayilli shows deep discontent with the regime. The lack of peaceful methods for the population to protest, combined with the regimes reliance on force, suggests that there will be more confrontation in the near future.
