A look at the history of police training in Switzerland shows that it was a long and rocky road that led to a largely standardized national system of basic training. Only at the beginning of this century were the syllabi of Swiss police academies as well as the final exams harmonized nationwide, and the title of “police officer” recognized at the federal level. Nevertheless, certain differences remain between the police schools and various police corps to this day.
