This paper analyzes the key international agreements on nuclear, biological and chemical (ABC) weapons in terms of their respective strengths and weaknesses. In order to prevent the use of these weapons in the future, it is important to maintain and strengthen existing treaty regimes dealing with the banning or the non-proliferation of ABC weapons. This is a major challenge as all treaties are currently in crisis. Europe should therefore continue to invest a great deal of energy in supporting these regimes.
