This issue deals with anti-LGBTQ discrimination and violence in Russia. Radzhana Buyantueva gives a broad overview of related societal developments, focusing on the state-sponsored conservatism which manages to present anti-LGBTQ legislation as a necessary measure of national security. Sergei Katsuba then goes on to look more specifically at the "gay propaganda law" of 2013 and its impact on anti-LGBTQ violence on the basis of hate crime statistics and court cases.
