This edition of Connections journal focuses on 1) the NATO Summit that took place in Warsaw, Poland in July 2016, and 2) what the Alliance must do to secure itself from the threats posed by Russia and international terrorism. The journal’s six articles specifically look at the intricacies of Russian hybrid warfare; the strategic adaptations NATO must make to secure its Eastern flank; the role nuclear deterrence continues to play in the latter process; the greater cooperation that’s necessary between NATO and the European Union; the ‘lessons learned’ from failed interventions and attempts to contain sectarian conflicts; and the role art theft plays in sustaining terrorist organizations.
