This paper addresses the Indian-Pakistani composite dialogue and assesses the chances for a "grand reconciliation" between the two states. It describes the implementation of confidence-building measures across the line of control that divides both countries, looks at the changing stances on the Kashmir question and discusses the growing buoyancy of Islamic extremists in Pakistan. The author states that the Indian-Pakistani dialogue is extremely vulnerable to the activism of the militant groups in Pakistan and the resolve of the two sides to insulate it from acts of terrorism and extremism.
