This publication analyzes diplomacy in the 21st century, which has changed on a personal, instrumental, institutional, as well as global level. More specifically, the text’s authors analyze 1) diplomats’ close involvement in the threat and actual use of economic sanctions; 2) the complex effects of modern communication technology on diplomatic action; 3) how the erosion of sovereignty of states fosters a need for diplomacy and diplomats to simultaneously represent their national and supranational aims; and more.
