This brief looks at the repercussions of a Taiwanese delegation’s visit to India in February 2017, which led China to chastise the Modi government on its commitment to the One-China policy. Yes, India has supported the policy since 1949, but relations between Beijing and New Delhi have since been complicated by border disputes, the sheltering of the Dalai Lama in India, and more. Given this context, the Indian government now faces a delicate balancing act between not antagonizing China further and yet maintaining open contact with Taiwan.
