This brief discusses the impact of the global recession of 2009 on social stability. The author argues that the loss of elite confidence is at the heart of worries about the social impact that a recession may have. He notes that the crisis will not automatically lead to class conflict or social unrest, but neither will it be good for communities and the environment.
