This paper comments on China's considerable success in expanding its overseas arms sales since the late 1980s. It argues that China has become a leading weapons supplier to African states. Nevertheless, Chinese arms sales are said to still be constrained by its small customer base and by a dearth of sophisticated weapons that it can sell globally.
