With reference specifically to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan and China, the author discusses economic, humanitarian and security concerns. The paper also addresses India's strategic partnership with the United States. The author concludes that for a meaningful foreign policy projection, India needs to shed its inertia and stereotypes, and to aim to strike strategic balances with its neighbors.
