This paper provides a regional breakdown of party-wise vote shares from the 2009 Indian parliamentary elections. The author also offers a comparative analysis of party-wise vote shares, with the statistics showing a widening gap between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata parties. The paper also provides a brief summary of voter turnout across India. While the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance was victorious in the elections, the authors cautions against writing off regional parties and their influence on India's politics.
