This paper examines the state and future of party politics in Russia in the wake of the global economic crisis. The author discusses the system as a whole, as well as the health and future of opposition forces. The author argues that even if President Dmitry Medvedev retains power until 2012, some liberalization of the system is likely to take place. The author concludes that actors outside Russia should seek to engage with as many different Russian political actors as possible, because a future party system may emerge from any of these groups.
