This workshop report addresses the complex nature of the nation and its narratives. First, it fleshes out the relationship between narratives and counternarratives. Second, by embracing narratives essentially as a manner of communication, the report critically examines the narrative dissonances in the state-citizen relationship. The workshop report also addresses the theoretical and philosophical groundings of the nation, the impact of the military on national narratives and the significance of symbolism in sustaining that narrative.
