This note encourages the Trump administration to eschew isolationism, continue exercising ‘international vigilance’, and maintain its commitment to key strategic partnerships. Indeed, isolationism is a non-starter for the US given the current quest by autocratic powers to undermine the existing international order and US interests. Given the latter problem, what’s truly necessary is for the US administration to adopt a “peace through strength” policy that privileges robust alliances and technologically capable military forces.
