This reports provides an assessment of the work of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) in Central Europe. It compiles the statements and findings of seminar participants who convened in Budapest, Hungary from 18-19 June 1998. The report details relations between the CPT and its partners in Central Europe, describes national visiting mechanism for prisons, and evaluates the implementation of CPT recommendations in five Central European countries: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia.
