This paper presents the Robben Island Guidelines for the prevention of torture in Africa. The guidelines are a joint product of the Association for the Prevention of torture (APT) and the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR). The guidelines are designed to assist states in meeting their national, regional and international obligations in the effective enforcement and implementation of the universally recognized prohibition and prevention of torture.
