This commentary deals with the recent uprising by the Uighurs in the Xingjiang province and China's response to it. It argues that the challenge posed by the Uighurs will remain a continuing source of instability in China. The author calls upon the Chinese government to change its approach towards the Uighurs and address their grievances to prevent the ethnic group from becoming radicalized.
