This brief discusses the outcome of the 2009 national elections in Aceh. The authors describe the results of the legislative elections and examine the relative strength of the separatist elements within society. Subsequently, the authors look at the promising outcome of the presidential elections. Looking to the future, the authors briefly outline the political conditions for sustainable peace and stability in Aceh.
