This paper discusses the effects of EU expansion and NATO enlargement on the Euro-Atlantic diplomatic and military relations with Russia and the Ukraine.The authors address how the enlarged EU and NATO have an important role to play in establishing new levels and patterns of cooperation and collaboration with Russia and the Ukraine, and how NATO and the EU can assist many of the former Soviet countries in overcoming and removing the relics and remnants of the Cold War.
